This is the last part of the discussion of the effects of separation of Native Americans via adoption or foster care.
Cash is king and it seems Indian Gaming (Casinos) are priority. The building of resources is important – it always has been – but let us take the time, even for a moment, to reach out to the lost that walk among us. Be assured that they are standing next to you at tribal events and are sitting next to you at tribal and government health clinics. They have learned to hide it well – but acceptance of your fellow, Indian or non-Indian, should be king. Many non-Indians are interested and want to help but sometimes our hostilities and our histories hold us in check.
It would certainly help if Indian and non-Indian communities could focus, even a small amount of effort, to welcome individuals back into our American communities. Copyright 2013, Mitch Battese
