If you look at what California has done over the last 50 or so decades, some of the more important and powerful trends of that state have lead the way for other states. Cutting edge social programming and environmental concerns started in California have slowly spread across the US. I think a good part of the US has, generally speaking, utilized California as a compass to point out where we, as a nation, are going. Sadly, the environment can’t afford to wait much longer.
